What is Ear Correction Treatment?

Otoplasty, often called ear correction surgery, is a type of cosmetic procedure that aims to change the shape and place of the ears. This surgery’s purpose is to make ears that stick out or have an unusual shape look better. It is a common procedure performed on both children and adults.
Otoplasty is a rather straightforward surgical operation. At Nu Cosmetic Clinic, your surgeon might make cuts behind the ears to access the cartilage. From there, they can reshape and adjust it to get the right shape.
In some situations, for example with babies, our doctors might use methods that do not require surgery, like shaping the ears without cutting.

Advantages of Otoplasty

Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty, provides several advantages for people. Here are a few to consider:

  • Otoplasty surgery is done to make your ears look better. It can fix problems like ears that stick out too much, are not the right shape, or don’t match each other in size. This results in a more natural-looking and pleasing appearance.
  • Otoplasty can assist individuals in becoming self-assured. Improving how one looks can have a beneficial effect on your overall wellbeing.
  • Otoplasty is a surgery that can fix congenital shape issues or unusual formation of the ears. This operation has helped numerous children who were born with ear differences.
  • Otoplasty is suitable for every age, both kids and grown-ups. With children, this surgery can prevent emotional issues that come from others making fun of them or bullying them. In adults, we can perform the procedure at any age to enhance appearance.
  • Otoplasty alters your ear’s form permanenetly, so you can experience the surgery’s advantages for a very long time.
  • Our surgeons carefully perform the ear surgery, placing cuts behind the ear so scars are hidden and hard to see.

Surgery

Ear Correction & Ear Reshaping, Otoplasty Otoplasty surgery takes place under general anaesthetic and takes between one and three hours. You should be able to go home the same day. Ear surgery will not leave you with any visible scarring as the incision is made behind the ear. The surgeon manipulates and reshapes the cartilage to create a natural and pleasing look.

Later Progress

As with any surgery, there will be a little redness and soreness but this should fade after around 48 hours. Immediately after the surgery the ears will be completely covered and this dressing should remain in place for 3 – 4 days. In order to ensure that the ear is protected and heals as intended, you will need to wear a special elasticated headband when you sleep for around a month.

Recovery and Aftercare

As you heal from the ear surgery, it is very important to take good care of yourself to achieve the best outcome. Right after your operation, our surgeons will cover your ear with wraps to reduce any puffiness. Pain management is essential, and your surgeon may prescribe medications to reduce discomfort.

During the initial days, keep your head in a raised position, particularly when sleeping. Also, refrain from doing vigorous tasks.

Following the guidelines provided by your surgeon is essential; these might involve careful cleaning of the incision sites.

In the first week after surgery, our doctors will arrange another meeting to take off your dressings and check if your wounds are getting better. You must be careful not to hurt your ears during this time. Sometimes, you might need to wear a headband to protect your ears and hold them in the right place.

You should slowly start doing your usual activities again, as recommended by your surgeon. Also, keep following the surgeon’s instructions like protecting scars from the sun to avoid hyperpigmentation.

It’s important to go to all the check-up meetings so the surgeon can see how you’re healing and help with any problems. Remember, open communication with your surgeon is the key to a smooth recovery.

Complications and Side Effects

Otoplasty is usually a safe operation, but like all surgeries, it has possible complications and side effects. It’s important for patients to understand these risks and talk about them in detail with their surgeon before they choose to have the surgery.
Some possible complications and side effects include:

The incision site could get infected. To reduce this chance, follow the doctor’s instructions after the surgery like keeping it clean and not poking or scratching it.

Excessive blood loss during or following the operation can be a risk. It is very important to quickly tell us about any strange bleeding, even though our surgeons try hard to reduce this possibility.

Even with attempts to lessen marks, having some scars is unavoidable. The surgeons make the cuts for otoplasty behind the ears to make sure that the scars cannot be easily seen.

You might feel different sensations for a while, such as not being able to feel or having a pins-and-needles feeling on your ears. Usually, these feelings go away as you heal further.

Even with the surgeon trying their hardest, there might be a chance that the ears are not symmetrical. To fix any clear differences, more surgeries could be needed.

The ears might be pulled back too much or not reshaped enough. To get the results you want, it is important to plan well before the operation and talk clearly with your doctor.

Certain individuals might have an allergy to the anesthesia or different substances applied in the operation. At Nu Cosmetic Clinic, this possibility is typically small because patients get a comprehensive evaluation before surgery during their preoperative meeting.

Healing time can be affected by a person’s age, general health condition, and how well they follow the care guidelines after surgery. If healing is slow, it might cause a longer period of pain or lead to other problems.

Complications are not very common and most people have otoplasty without serious problems. You should always talk to your surgeon if you have worries or questions about possible complications for your situation.

Otoplasty Price and Finance

The cost of otoplasty varies for each individual and can be anywhere between £2500 to £4500. This estimate typically includes the doctor’s fees, anesthesia, facility fees, and any necessary follow-up appointments.

It’s essential for individuals considering otoplasty to inquire about the specific breakdown of costs during the consultation with the surgeon. Additionally, patients should be aware that the initial cost may not cover potential additional expenses, such as prescription medications, post-surgery garments, or revision procedures in case of complications.
