Male Excessive Sweating

The world awaits a Nu you

What is Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating can have a negative effect on work and social life, influencing people’s clothing choice and causing social anxiety and distress. Excessive sweating is caused when the body’s sweat glands become over stimulated, most commonly in the armpits, hands or feet. It’s not clear why some people develop the condition and others don’t, however genetic factors are thought to play a role, as two-thirds of sufferers have a family member who also has the condition.

Before your treatment, we request that you come in and have a chat to one of our surgeons to check your suitability and thoroughly explain the procedure.

The Procedure

Using Laser:
Laser sweat gland treatment works by “shutting off” the glands that are producing excessive sweat. Up to 80% of clients can expect a complete and permanent resolution to their excessive sweating following this treatment.

Prior to the treatment, the particular glands that are responsible for the excessive production of sweat will be isolated using an iodine skin patch. Local anaesthetic is then used to numb the area completely. After ensuring that you have no feeling in the area, the surgeon will make a number of small incisions, approximately 5mm long. The fine bore laser is then inserted into these incisions and used to destroy the overactive glands; these gland are then removed with suction.

Following the procedure, a compression dressing will be applied to aid healing and minimize any discomfort. This will stay in place for a few days, after which you can attend the clinic for a dressing change and review.

Using Botox:
First iodine is applied to the affected areas where overactive sweat glands have been identified and marked. These areas are treated with a series of small injections of botulinum toxin type A (Vistabel ®, often known as Botox ®). This relatively pain-free treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes.

You should expect to start seeing positive results between 3 to 14 days later. Results last between 8-12 months before the condition slowly returns, you can then choose to have the treatment repeated if you wish.
